Set in LA in the late 1940s after World War II, this grisly crime noir tells the epic story of Irish-born gang boss Mickey Cohen (Penn) who rules LA's gangland with a brutal iron fist and proclaims himself not only the 'future' of LA, but to the police...judge, jury and executioner. That, of course, is when hard-headed cop John O'Mara (Josh Brolin, Men in Black 3)steps in to bust Cohen under orders from his mentor and boss Bill Parker (Nick Nolte, 48 Hrs, Hulk) and gathers a ragtag squad of tough, accurate cops (Giovanni Ribisi, Avatar, and Robert Patrick, Terminator 2)under the orders of John and his partner, easygoing, morally straight Sgt. Jerry Wooters (Ryan Gosling) who unfortunately, incurs Cohen's horrible wrath when Jerry woos Mickey's gun girl Grace (Emma Stone, the Amazing Spider-Man) which may cause a rift between his duty to stop Cohen and his love for Grace
However...it isn't long before the cops' work gets Cohen's attention. And he's not very pleased with Grace's new lover. Eager for revenge, he terrorizes all the locals, even John's loved ones. That incident inadvertantly opens a can of worms as Cohen and the entire LAPD engage in a brutal gunfight where it becomes VERY clear that only ONE or *maybe* THREE will walk out
Featuring fitting jazz/stylish music by Steve Jablonsky (Transformers trilogy) and loosely based from the crime novel Saga by James Ellroy, Gangster Squad guarantees to be action packed, from start to finish, all leading to the climactic confrontation in Chinatown. Gangster Squad blasts onto the big screen next week, January 11th
