42

Who could even possibly forget the legendary baseball player Jackie Robinson of the Brooklyn Dodgers team? Not only is he a legend in history of sports, he was also the very first African-American to be in a white baseball team. All in all, audiences are wondering: How did he make history for himself? Well, that's the question that will be answered in the upcoming sports drama fittingly titled '42' which was, true to form, Robinson's uniform number.

Set in New York in the late 1940s or 1950s, Robinson (played by Chadwick Boseman) tries to make it to the top of sports popularity despite strong, prejudiced racism from the whites and from the Dodgers players who despise having Jackie on their team.

Fortunately, Jackie finds confidence and help in the form of gruff but good-natured Branch Rickey (played respectively by Harrison Ford) who serves as Jackie's mentor throughout the film and showing him what it really means to be a true team player.

Fortunately for him, Jackie's not alone as he is also supported by Leo Durocher (Christopher Meloni from Law and Order SVU) who seems to share his dreams of making it big. And it isnt long before Jackie transforms from zero to here, changing the views of baseball and ethnicity between blacks and whites...forever.

Also starring Lucas Black, Alan Tudyk and John C. McGinley, and directed by Brian Heldegand (I am Legend) 42 is the movie that will make you cheer with motivation and witness the powerful story of how one man stood up against all odds and became an icon for American history. 42 steps onto the plate April 12.

Gangster Squad

For years, Sean Penn; the king of bad boy actors has long since amazed, inspired and naturally terrified audiences with his outstanding and dramatic performances. Now he's back in the spotlight once again, teaming with director Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) to bring a true crime story to the big screen. They called it "Gangster Squad"

Set in LA in the late 1940s after World War II, this grisly crime noir tells the epic story of Irish-born gang boss Mickey Cohen (Penn) who rules LA's gangland with a brutal iron fist and proclaims himself not only the 'future' of LA, but to the police...judge, jury and executioner. That, of course, is when hard-headed cop John O'Mara (Josh Brolin, Men in Black 3)steps in  to bust Cohen under orders from his mentor and boss Bill Parker (Nick Nolte, 48 Hrs, Hulk) and gathers a ragtag squad of tough, accurate cops (Giovanni Ribisi, Avatar, and Robert Patrick, Terminator 2)under the orders of John and his partner, easygoing, morally straight Sgt. Jerry Wooters (Ryan Gosling) who unfortunately, incurs Cohen's horrible wrath when Jerry woos Mickey's gun girl Grace (Emma Stone, the Amazing Spider-Man) which may cause a rift between his duty to stop Cohen and his love for Grace

However...it isn't long before the cops' work gets Cohen's attention. And he's not very pleased with Grace's new lover. Eager for revenge, he terrorizes all the locals, even John's loved ones. That incident inadvertantly opens a can of worms as Cohen and the entire LAPD engage in a brutal gunfight where it becomes VERY clear that only ONE or *maybe* THREE will walk out

Featuring fitting jazz/stylish music by Steve Jablonsky (Transformers trilogy) and loosely based from the crime novel Saga by James Ellroy, Gangster Squad guarantees to be action packed, from start to finish, all leading to the climactic confrontation in Chinatown. Gangster Squad blasts onto the big screen next week, January 11th
